Gender-based violence is a serious problem in Bolivia, affecting thousands of women and girls every year. The country has one of the highest rates of violence against women in Latin America. This is partly caused by the lack of financial resources and the deeply ingrained patriarchy in Bolivian society.
This violence is physical, sexual, psychological, and economic. It is accompanied by a lack of women's participation in public spaces and total financial dependence on their spouses.
Louvain Coopération and its partners are fighting to ensure that Bolivian girls and women assert their rights.
With our partners and the expertise of numerous academics, we endeavour to reverse these relations of domination and improve the medical and psychological support for women who are victims of violence, as well as to strengthen their leadership and financial independence.
But we cannot do it alone.
We need you, your solidarity.

I am alone to raise my four children. In order to provide for them, I had no other choice but to work as a street sweeper at night for several years. It was a difficult and dangerous job, and I had to leave my children alone at home. Sadly, I couldn't find another job because I left school at a very young age. To make money for my family, I had to take on temporary and poorly paid work.
Two years ago, I was able to train in commercial baking and basic administrative management. I also received literacy classes. Thanks to this, I was able to start my own small bakery business.
At first, I was guided and supported by an entrepreneurship advisor to assist me in the production and sale of my pastries. And gradually, I managed on my own. I produce my pastries and deliver them to various places, including schools. Now, I have been able to quit my old job, and I live off my small business. I am independent. It's a dream come true for me!
So that other women like Guillermina can have a profession, be financially independent and have confidence in themselves.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
